BUND

BUND

Bund is Shanghai Me’s all-day lounge, a hidden destination inspired by the discreet speakeasies of 1930s Shanghai, where royalty and the social elite once gathered to unwind in private, atmospheric settings.

Concealed behind a mirrored wall within Shanghai Me, Bund draws on this heritage to create an intimate, immersive environment that feels both exclusive and timeless. Located at the top of the Hilton on Park Lane, in London’s Mayfair, the space is elevated further by panoramic views across the city, providing a dramatic backdrop from day through to night.

The Lighting Design Studio was tasked with creating a lighting scheme that responded not only to the architecture, but to the shifting energy of the venue itself. More than a purely architectural solution, Bund required a dynamic lighting language capable of evolving throughout the day — from relaxed, refined cocktail moments to high-impact, DJ-led evenings. The design treats technology as an unseen art form, using light, movement and rhythm to shape atmosphere without overwhelming the space.

The studio delivered lighting design, product specification and hands-on support throughout installation. Architectural lighting, anchored by Rako control systems, is layered with dynamic elements driven through Madrix, enabling seamless transitions between calm, elegant scenes and immersive, performance-led lighting states. Timed sequences respond naturally to the rhythm of the venue and the setting sun, making the most of Bund’s exceptional sunset views, while manual controls allow for spontaneous creativity whenever required.

Through careful integration of control, technology and architecture, lighting becomes an invisible yet powerful contributor to the guest experience. At Bund, relaxed sophistication and vibrant energy coexist, with a lighting environment that does more than illuminate — it defines the mood and elevates the sense of occasion.
